Client Engineering Case Study: Successful Collaboration with Bangladesh Gas Fields Co. Ltd.

Company Overview: ABTStee Company

ABTStee Company, a leading provider of high-quality steel fittings and components, has been serving the energy and industrial sectors for over three decades. Our commitment to excellence, coupled with our vast experience and state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, has positioned us as a trusted partner for clients worldwide. This case study highlights our successful collaboration with Bangladesh Gas Fields Co. Ltd. (BGFCL) on a critical procurement project.

Project Background

In late 2013, BGFCL issued an international tender (No. BGFCL/MATS(FP)/155) for the procurement of various steel fittings, including flanges, long radius elbows, equal tees, reducing tees, concentric reducers, and stud bolts and nuts. The tender aimed to secure a reliable supply of high-quality fittings for use in their gas field operations. ABTStee Company, with its proven track record in delivering such products, submitted a comprehensive bid.

Project Scope

The scope of the project included the procurement of the following fittings, adhering strictly to the specifications provided by BGFCL:

  • Flanges: Welding neck forged carbon steel flanges conforming to ASTM specification A-105, Grade-1, with dimensions as per ASA B-16.5 and beveled ends. Sizes ranged from 3 inches to 6 inches, with varying ANSI classes and pipe schedules.
  • Long Radius Elbows: Carbon steel 45/90-degree elbows conforming to ASTM A-234, Grade-WPB, with dimensions as per ASNI B-16.9 and beveled ends. Sizes ranged from 3 inches to 16 inches, with varying pipe schedules.
  • Equal Tees: Carbon steel equal tees conforming to ASTM A-234, Grade-WPB, with dimensions as per ANSI-B-16.9 and beveled ends. Sizes ranged from 10 inches to 16 inches, all with a pipe schedule of 80.
  • Reducing Tees: Carbon steel reducing tees conforming to ASTM A-234, Grade-WPB, with dimensions as per ANSI-B-16.9 and beveled ends. Specifically, a 6” x 4” x 6” size with a pipe schedule of 160 (ANSI Class-1500).
  • Concentric Reducers: Carbon steel reducers conforming to ASTM A-234, Grade-WPB, with dimensions as per ANSI-B-16.9 and beveled ends. Various sizes and schedules were required, ranging from 10” x 6” to 16” x 14”, all with a pipe schedule of 80.
  • Stud Bolts and Nuts: Alloy steel bolts conforming to ANSI B 18.2 and nuts conforming to ANSI 18.2, with materials as per ASA 193 Gr. B7 for bolts and ASTM A 194 Gr. 2H for nuts. Specific sizes and threading were required for the RTJ face flanges.

Technical Specifications and Compliance

ABTStee Company ensured that all products met or exceeded the technical specifications provided by BGFCL. This included strict adherence to ASTM and ANSI standards for material composition, dimensions, and end preparations. Each fitting was carefully inspected and tested to ensure compliance with the required specifications.

Quality Control Measures

Our quality control processes were rigorous and comprehensive. We implemented strict inspection protocols at every stage of production, from raw material sourcing to final assembly. This included:

  • Material Verification: All raw materials were verified for composition and mechanical properties before being approved for use.
  • Dimensional Accuracy: Each fitting was measured to ensure it met the specified dimensions and tolerances.
  • Visual Inspection: A thorough visual inspection was conducted to check for defects such as cracks, porosity, and inclusions.
  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Fittings underwent NDT, including ultrasonic testing and magnetic particle inspection, to detect any internal defects.
  • Marking and Packaging: Each fitting was marked with its size, material, grade, and rating before being carefully packaged for shipment.

Manufacturing and Delivery

Upon winning the tender, ABTStee Company immediately commenced manufacturing operations. Our state-of-the-art facilities and highly skilled workforce ensured timely production and delivery of the fittings.

Manufacturing Process

The manufacturing process involved several critical steps, including:

  • Forging and Machining: Raw materials were forged into the required shapes and then machined to precise dimensions.
  • Heat Treatment: Fittings underwent heat treatment to achieve the desired mechanical properties.
  • Welding and Beveling: Welding was carried out using advanced techniques to ensure structural integrity, and ends were beveled to prepare for welding in the field.
  • Painting and Coating: All flanges were coated with lacquer to prevent rust and deterioration prior to use.

Timely Delivery

ABTStee Company was committed to meeting the tight delivery schedule specified by BGFCL. We adhered to a rigorous production timeline and maintained close communication with BGFCL throughout the process. As a result, we successfully delivered all fittings within the agreed-upon delivery period of 120 days from the date of opening the Letter of Credit.

Project Execution and Performance

The successful execution of this project was a testament to the expertise and dedication of the ABTStee Company team. Our commitment to quality, adherence to specifications, and timely delivery were key factors in ensuring the project’s success.

Installation and Commissioning

Following delivery, BGFCL’s engineering team began installing the fittings in their gas field operations. ABTStee Company provided technical support and assistance as needed, ensuring a smooth installation process. The fittings were successfully integrated into the existing pipeline infrastructure, and the system was commissioned without any issues.

Performance Monitoring

Post-installation, ABTStee Company continued to monitor the performance of the fittings. Regular checks were conducted to ensure that they were operating within specifications and that no issues arose. To date, the fittings have performed exceptionally well, demonstrating ABTStee Company’s commitment to delivering high-quality products.

Client Feedback and Future Collaboration

BGFCL was extremely satisfied with the performance of ABTStee Company throughout the project. The quality of the fittings, adherence to specifications, timely delivery, and technical support were all highly praised. This successful collaboration has laid the foundation for future projects and a continued partnership between ABTStee Company and BGFCL.
